Tiramisu Chocolate Cake
If you love the combination of chocolate and espresso, then this recipe is for you! This tiramisu chocolate cake is made up of 3 heavenly layers: a coffee-soaked chocolate sponge cake, a light and airy mascarpone frosting, and a generous dusting of cocoa powder. This cake is inspired by a dessert we recently had at a coffee shop. It’s one of our favorites because it’s perfectly sweet and simple to make!

Tiramisu Chocolate Cake
If you love the combination of chocolate and espresso, then this recipe is for you! This tiramisu chocolate cake is made up of 3 heavenly layers: a coffee-soaked chocolate sponge cake, a light and airy mascarpone frosting, and a generous dusting of cocoa powder.
Ingredients
Chocolate Cake:
- 3 eggs room temp
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tsp espresso powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Coffee Soak
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp instant coffee
Mascarpone Frosting
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 8 oz mascarpone
- 4 oz cream cheese softened
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar sifted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
Instructions
To make the chocolate cake:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper.
- Using a hand mixer, whip the eggs until foamy. About 1 minute. Then, add the sugar and beat until thickened and pale in color. About 15 minutes.
- Add in the flour, cocoa powder, espresso powder, and salt. Fold in the dry ingredients into the wet batter until no flour streaks remain.
- Fold the in the oil and vanilla extract until combined.
- Pour into a lined pan and bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Mix together the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water. Using a fork, poke holes in the cake and soak it while the cake is still warm.
To make the frosting:
- Make the frosting by whipping the heavy cream and sugar until stiff peaks. In a separate bowl, whisk together the mascarpone, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Fold in the heavy cream until combined.
To assemble:
- Once the cake has completely cooled, spread the frosting on top and dust with cocoa powder. Slice and enjoy!
