Apple Hand Pies
This simple recipe for individual apple hand pies are really fun to make and the perfect treats for the fall season. These apple hand pies feature the classic flavors of an apple pie in a flaky puff pastry. They're incredibly easy to prepare and you can even try out different filling variations depending on the season!
Ingredients
- 2 sheets puff pastry
- 2 medium honeycrisp apples peeled and cubed
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 egg for egg wash
- cinnamon sugar for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400℉. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add the apples, butter, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cook for 7-10 minutes until the apples are soft and tender.
- In a small bowl, mix together the cornstarch and water. Add the mixture to the apples and simmer until thickened, about 1 minute. Set the apples aside to cool.
- Slightly roll out each sheet of puff pastry and cut each sheet into 3 long strips.
- To fill the pastries, brush the bottom half of the dough with egg wash and add 2 tbsp of the apple filling. Fold over the top half and seal the edges with a fork.
- Cut 3 small slits on top of each pie. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
- Bake for at 400℉ 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
