Apple Braided Pastry
This apple braided pastry is the easiest cozy treat! A flaky puff pastry filled with spiced apples and drizzled with sweet icing.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 2 medium honeycrisp apples peeled and cubed
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp milk
- cinnamon sugar for topping
Icing
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp milk more if needed
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400℉. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add the apples, butter, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cook for 7-10 minutes until the apples are soft and tender.
- In a small bowl, mix together the cornstarch and water. Add the mixture to the apples and simmer until thickened, about 1 minute. Set the apples aside to cool.
- Slightly roll out the sheet of puff pastry. Add the apple filling to the center of the dough. Cut 7 slanted lines on each side of the pastry and fold over each side to create a braided pattern. Brush with milk and raw sugar.
- Bake for at 400℉ 30-35 minutes until golden brown. To make the icing, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Drizzle over the cooled pastry.
